Hamble & Hound Gundog Club

We’re very pleased to have The Hamble & Hound Gundog Club joining us again at this years wood fair. They will be putting on displays in one of the arenas twice a day and running several different dog scurries that you & your dog can have a go at, with prizes being handed out on Sunday to the top 3 of each scurry.

Gundog Scurries

  • A retrieving competition designed for gundog breeds but is open to all breeds.
  • Revel in the delight of watching your dog have a blast, negotiating obstacles to retrieve.
  • Chat with our knowledgeable volunteers about all thing’s dogs.
  • Seek advice from our training, health and welfare experts.
  • Be amazed at what your dog is capable of.
  • Win prizes for the fastest dogs in each discipline.
  • Then watch the experts in the main arena show off what hours of dedication and training can do.
  • Scurry entry fee £2.00 per go.

Read on for a little more information about the club:

We were founded as a Facebook group, to provide a forum for the owners of gundog breeds on the Hamble Peninsula in 2016.  Since then, it has become so much more.

We are a group of gundog breed owners who are passionate about raising and training that is both beneficial and specific to their breed.  Whether we ‘work’ our dogs in the field or they are just family pets, we wholeheartedly believe that breed specific training will benefit both dog and owner.

Our membership has expanded far beyond the confines of the Hamble Peninsula as we have been running scurries at various country fairs over the years and with that growth in membership, we have realised that there is a huge amount of people out there in need of help, advice, and general education about how to cope with their gundog breed and ensure it is a happy healthy dog.

So, this year we are bringing our team of experts on the road again offering all breed owners a chance to ‘have a go’ in the scurries and pick our brains on any dog related subject.

We offer advice on:

  • Training – with our own training sessions and information on local trainers.
  • Feeding – this can be a quagmire for new owners.
  • Breeding
  • Selecting a puppy
  • Health testing
  • Grooming

We are also very lucky this year to have travelling with us Kelly Bidwell RVN to advise on all thing’s health, nutrition and welfare.

This year we will be on hand at Goodwoof and The South Downs Show, as well as West’s Wood Fair.
