Days Hours Minutes Seconds
West’s Wood Fair is an event featuring the many
interesting ways in which wood is used.
We are pleased to announce that for the first time we have a falconry display taking place on both days. See birds of prey in action or visit their stand for the opportunity to learn more about them. If the weather is as good as predicted there is a chance that the falconry team may have to have to cancel at short notice due to the extreme heat, as the welfare of the birds must come first.
Another new event this year is a ‘for fun’ dog scurry. Whether your dog is a seasoned pro after some practice or has never done it before, bring them along and have a go. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times in all other areas of the wood fair.
This year we will also be raising our newly made totem pole on the Saturday.
Our exhibitors include trade stands selling timber and many other wood-related products, demonstrations of sawmilling, pole lathes, and hurdle making. Details of this years exhibitors can be found on the exhibitors page, which is updated regularly.
We will be firing our ballista and in the arena will be our chainsaw race, cant hook race and pole climbing demonstrations. Also joining us for the first time are the The Dorset Axeman, who’s displays contain all aspects of speed and accuracy chopping and crosscut sawing with razor sharp axes and saws.
We will have heavy horses pulling our wooden pole-waggon and a tractor and trailer ride into the depths of the forest.
We will be running our new event the Sussex Scrumpy Stakes again, which is a free entry competition. Participants will be drinking scrumpy, running down the hill and doing some apple bobbing along the way. The winning contestant is the one who finds the golden apple in a trailer full of sawdust, and walks away with a prize of £100.
There will be other activities to take part in, such as axe-throwing and archery. Or try your hand at the timber identification competition, handsaw race, cant hook race or hammer in the nail challenge. The log roll will also be going on which is always popular with the kids.
There will be a steam engine powering a saw mill, some vintage tractors and a Matador. We will also have our showroom will be open for visitors to look at our fine furniture and joinery.
There is a wide range of food and drink available. The Woodturner’s Rest (our specially built pub) will be opening again and will be serving a selection of real ales throughout the weekend. There will also be plenty of live music going on over the weekend.
