“I visited your wood fair this year for the first time and it was just absolutely brilliant! A fantastic array of crafts and skills!!!”

“Just thought I would let the dust settle after the Wood Fair, before dropping you a line. I came over on the Sunday for a few hours and, as usual, had a great time. For obvious reasons things seemed a bit smaller and more compact this year, however that didn’t detract from the overall enjoyment of the event.
The family had a good look round and commented on the relaxed feel of the show, with a good selection of exhibitors and plenty to see and do.
I know the effort that goes into putting this type of show together, but then throw Covid into the mix and wow you did a good job. Again well done for a great show, all the best”

“I just wanted to say what a fabulous family friendly event – so lovely to see so many ‘have a go things’ as well as interesting stalls and displays. Congratulations, we will be back next year. I also particularly enjoyed Wild Eyes music on Sunday – great vocals and playing.”

“I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and your team for putting on the Wood Fair again this year. We thought it was a fabulous event which far exceeded previous years in terms of footfall and traditional wood fair atmosphere. The Saturday evening entertainment was brilliant and it was good to see so many traders out enjoying it; we only wish we could have stayed out longer to enjoy the refreshments but we were shattered!
Without exception, every visitor we spoke to at our stand said they were having a wonderful day and thought it was a great event. I’m sure the organisation of the Wood Fair is complex and time-consuming but it would be good to see it back again next year – and on the annual calendar!
Without doubt West’s Wood Fair is our favourite event of the year so please keep us on your mailing list! Best wishes to you and your team.”

“I would just like to say how fantastic your wood fair was this weekend. I came on Sunday, and camped on Saturday night (bit scary!), and the range of exhibitors and events were so interesting. So many of the stallholders are such good people and a pleasure to talk to and learn from. It was also very good of you to run the event on my birthday – thanks very much!”

“We’ve just had a really enjoyable afternoon at the Wood fair in East Dean. It’s always such a lovely event as it’s properly rural with craft and wood based stalls – many of them local – and not a double glazing tent in sight!”

“For the organisers, may I add my appreciation to the many who enjoyed your efforts in putting together such an interesting show. It was a great day. Thank you. Hopefully you will be planning a repeat performance for 2020!”

West’s Wood Fair is an event featuring the many interesting ways in which wood is used.

Our exhibitors include trade stands selling timber and many other wood-related products, demonstrations of sawmilling, pole lathes, and hurdle making. The exhibitors page is being regularly updated with confirmed exhibitors for 2024.

Joining us again will be the Hamble and Hound Gundog Club providing gundog displays twice a day. On the Saturday & Sunday they will also be running a dog scurry, whether your dog is a seasoned pro or has never done it before, they are welcome to have a go. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times in all other areas of the wood fair.

There will be our chainsaw race on the Saturday & Sunday and pole climbing demonstrations across all 3 days. Joining us again on Saturday & Sunday will be The Dorset Axemen, who’s displays contain all aspects of speed and accuracy chopping and crosscut sawing with razor sharp axes and saws.

For the first time we are being joined by the British Lawnmower Racing Association who will be running lawnmower racing on the Saturday & Sunday.

Our Kids Corner will be returning featuring den building, mud kitchens, games and face painting again, plus this year there will be storytime a couple of times a day, paint your own totem pole and plant your own tree.

We will have heavy horses pulling our wooden pole-waggon and putting on logging demonstrations and our tractor & trailer ride will of course be available taking you into the depths of the forest. If tractors aren’t your thing, for the first time we will have horse & carriage rides available. Plus we are planning some new activities, like crazy croquet and I’m a lumberjack get me out of here.

We’ll be running the Sussex Scrumpy Stakes again on Saturday & Sunday, which is a free entry competition. Participants have to drink a glass of scrumpy, before running down the hill, do some apple bobbing, down a shot, then the winning contestant is the one who finds the golden apple in a trailer full of sawdust, and walks away with a prize of £100.

There will be lots of other activities to take part in, such as axe-throwing and plant your own tree. Or you could try your hand at the timber identification competition or hammer in the nail challenge, both of which are free to enter. The log roll will be available, which is always popular with the kids.

There will be the steam engine powering a saw mill, some vintage tractors and other steam engines & lorries. And we will be bringing some our our showroom products down into the field.

Our chainsaw carving competition will run over all 3 days, and once again on Sunday the public will be able to vote for the winner, see the chainsaw carving competition page for the 2023 results and the winning piece.

There will be a wide range of food and drink available. The Woodturner’s Rest (our specially built pub) will once again be opening it’s doors and serving a selection of locally produced real ales. And there will be live music going on throughout the weekend.

A big thank you to everybody who came along to our 2023 wood fair.
